Goth girl and 80's illustration

It's been a while since I blogged here. I found an old portfolio with some fashion drawings from the 1980's. Sometimes I wonder if computers have been a good thing for me regarding illustration . I have never quite been able to draw the same. I have aways preferred that reassuring feeling of pencil on paper. I would have worn this dress . It's very me..:)

Lovisa Burfitt...Fashion Illustrations

I just love these sweet fashion illustrations from Swedish Lovisa Burfitt. She has been  illustrating since she graduated from the Beckmans School of Fashion in 1997 and has worked with the likes of H&M, Procter&Gamble, Absolut Vodka, Bloomingdales and Kenzo amongst others. Lovisa is also a  fashion designer and sells her womenswear line Burfitt
I feel inspired to get my pens and paper out and just sketch. I used to love doing shoes and there are so many fab shoes to sketch these days I could do some proper minxy ladies :)

Black Magic...

I love this shoot by Julia Pogodina. The imagery is so witchy and the effects of the ink make the photos look like they are surrounded in dark smoke. Check it out here

Happy New Year
Bast
Eye of Horus
Pentacle Pendant

Firstly, Happy New Year to anyone reading this blog. :) I hope the coming year fulfills all your wishes.
The first day of 2011 has just passed but what a fabulous day. The four ones... 1:1:11....

It certainly felt like a witchy kind of a day and prompted me to read a couple of books I bought recently. I love the idea of psychic self-defense. When anyone directs a thought towards you they are directing an energy. If you are not centred in yourself this can affect your own mood if it is a bad thought. Some people are Psychic Vampires. These people drain others of their energy, vitality, and emotion. Protection magick keeps you healthy and aware of this type of energy.

I'm waiting for my cool pentacle pendant in the post. A friend saw it in a charity shop and thought of me...the best kind of present.:)

I'm very fond of Egyptian mythology. Bast is one of my favourites Goddesses. She has the head of a black cat. The Egyptian people turned to her for protection and blessing. The cat was a demi-god in Egypt and often regarded as more important than humans.

The statues I have were given to me by my late mother .They are very precious to me.

I also love the black bag with the Eye of Horus embossed onto the fabric. The eye is a protection symbol associated with royal power from the Gods. The design of the eye is fractional, meaning that each part of the image represents a different fraction. I love this. It's not unlike the Golden Section.

Have a wonderful year and stay protected and happy.

Melting Snow :)

I'm so glad the snow is melting and life is becoming more normal :) I'm not happy when it's hard to travel and difficult to even walk down the road. Luckily it was mainly over Christmas and we could just stay in and eat and watch TV, play games and play music. My present was the fab Project III debut red turntable. I'd forgotten just how amazing vinyl sounds and there was me ready to give it all away about six years ago. I'm so glad I kept it all because the memories from every record are absolutely priceless.
It was lovely to have a white Christmas and I know when it's gone I will appreciate what we had so much more :)  It was strange being in the house that belonged to my parents and the house that i grew up in from the age of 11. I have had so many Christmases in this house but I have tried to make it my own and not dwell too much on the past. My parents would just be happy that we are taking care of the house and enjoying the lovely enviroment. There is still much to do. I don't even have a sofa yet or curtains :) I can't wait to gradually put my mark on the house.

Trees and Baubles

I love Christmas trees and the whole ritual of putting them up. Every year I always buy some new baubles for the tree. This year it was the bird baubles :) I'm a little late with this blog as Christmas day was yesterday. It's spirit will not be forgotten though as these trees will stay up for a while to cheer up the dark winter nights. I always used to buy real trees and really love them but my conscience got the better of me and I bought a white tree and that was it really. No more cleaning up pine needles and having to dispose of a dead tree. I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and hope Santa brought you every thing you desire. It's a white Christmas here in the UK...at last :)

After so Long....

The view from the front of the house. I can see a farm..how crazy :)
Jack frost in the back garden.
I can hardly believe that my last entry was in June!! I have moved from the city of London to the peace and quiet of a small village near Liverpool. I have so much space here. The air is clean and I have lovely views from the front of the house. The land belongs to Lord Derby and will never be built on. The last six months have been filled with finishing the renovations on my house in London and packing many boxes. I'm relieved that it's all over with and my house is rented and now I have the time to do other things. :) At the end of the road are the impressive gates to the estate and Knowsley Safari Park. Strange to think that there are many wild animals within 2 miles of my house.

She Reflected the Dots

I decided to try and make more of an effort with my not so exciting point and shoot camera!!! The depressing thing is that there are people on Flickr who take amazing shots with very similar cameras....soooo blaming one's tools just isn't going to get any sympathy here really :D
I thought that I would start at home and just look around for anything that I could snap in a more thought about kinda way :D
So the first victim was a painting that I did years ago on foundation in Liverpool, which just happened to be next to some lights. I must have been 19 when I did the painting. My mother kept it for me all these years and I just discovered it again. It's nothing great but I remember I really enjoyed the process of painting it with numerous layers of ink. So here is my attempt to capture the reflected lights :D

The Art of Brian Williams

The end of The Dream
Light -Bringer
My White Devil
Angel of Ashes
Frankies Girl

Brian Williams studied at the Slade School of Art. I met him before he went to London in his home-town of Liverpool. I always thought he was very talented and witty so it's no surprise that he is still creating through film and photography with the same passion he showed back then.
He has also written a series of books with Roderick Gordon, a friend also from the Slade. They decided to self-publish their books at first but were discovered by J K Rowling's publisher :) Now this series of four books are selling worldwide and may well be made into films. Go
here to read about the books. Brian has many more examples of his incredible art photographs on Flickr. Go here to look at them all.
